Silent Flashes explores the phenomenal early photography of and by Icelandic immigrants in North America and includes some 400 unique images from the 1870-1910 era. Many of the photos are exceptional works of art and have been enlarged to bring faces and details to life. The exhibit creates a powerful impression and offers new insight into the Icelandic immigrant experience. Included are images taken in some 50 locations across North America - from Halifax to Victoria and New York to Seattle. |

The exhibit also features 16 early Icelandic photographers who worked in North America prior to 1910 (Photos) Silent Flashes was created through the co-operative efforts of the Icelandic Emigration Centre (Vesturfarasetrið) at Hofsós, Iceland, and Nelson Gerrard of the Eyrarbakki Icelandic Heritage Centre in Manitoba, Canada, with the support of patrons and corporate sponsors in Canada, Iceland, and the United States. |
