Photocopying old photos is still the simplest way to share pictures for purposes of identification or assessment.    These copies can be kept for reference, comparison, etc.

Scanning old photos is also a popular option.   These guidelines will help ensure that your time is well spent:
•  Scan in colour rather than B/W or greyscale.
•  Include the entire image and card , with a slight margin. (DO NOT CROP THE IMAGE)
•  Scan at 300 dpi (resolution)
•  Save image in TIFF rather than JPEG format
•  Numerous images can then be saved to a CD or DVD

E-mailing scanned images ... Before attaching an image to an email:
•  Resave the image at a low resolution (72 or 150 dpi)
•  Resave as a JPEG

Photos in Victorian albums... are sometimes difficult to remove without damaging the album pages.   Slide a business card or bookmark under the photo's bottom edge, moving it from side to side so the photo will slip out easily.   It is important to put each photo back in the same spot, as the original placement of photos in albums can be significant.
