Unlike most local histories, Gimlunga Saga is being compiled by one researcher/writer - with input and assistance from descendants of the area's pioneers. This series will be unusual for its extensive use of early photographs and its detailed stories of the pioneers, pieced together from a variety of previously untapped sources.   Content, organization, and format will follow that of Icelandic River Saga.

Gimlunga Saga is a huge undertaking.   Preliminary research has identified some 500 early pioneer families, many of which include sons and daughters who also became pioneers.   In many cases, a single pioneer couple has hundreds of descendants, and the number of Gimli's pioneer descendants is now estimated at 100,000-125,000.   Only about 15% of the area's pioneer families are mentioned in a previous history published 35 years ago.
